DANVILLE, CA — The town of Danville has released more information on the Lighting of the Old Oak Tree, a beloved holiday tradition taking place this Friday.

The lighting will start at 5 p.m. at the 350-year-old Old Oak Tree on Diablo Road between West El Pintado and I-680 with songs from local choirs and a performance from Danville native and American Idol alumna Grace Leer, who advanced to the Top 11 Season 18. This will be followed by words from Danville Mayor Renee Morgan, followed by a countdown led by Santa Claus and the Snow Angel.

After the tree is lit at 6:30 p.m., guests are invited to holiday entertainment and special deals at shops all over Downtown Danville. A full entertainment map is available here.

Several streets will be closed to accommodate the event. Portions of Hartz Avenue, Diablo Road, Prospect Avenue, El Pintado, Front Street, and Linda Mesa Avenue will be closed from 4 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m., with a portion of Diablo Road closed from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, guests can enjoy live music at Prospect Park Plaza, and enjoy the Auggie Elf Holiday Hunt, in which children are invited to find Auggie displays at over 30 participating locations downtown. See here for more information.
