In May 2021, the Town launched the first phase of an outreach effort to inform the community about its Housing Element update, mandated by the State of California. As a policy document, the Housing Element must identify where and how Danville will accommodate the housing needs for people of all income groups. For the upcoming 2023-2031 planning period, the Town has been assigned the task of accommodating a minimum of 2,241 new homes, regardless of available land capacity.
Given the state mandate, the Town is inviting the community to contribute ideas on where new housing could be accommodated by dropping ‘pins’ on an online “Housing Site Suggestion Map.” This map will be available at www.DanvilleTownTalks.org/HousingElement from March – April 2022.
Community members can learn how to use this Housing Site Suggestion Map at any of the following “Housing 201” Workshops:
- Wednesday, March 9 @ 6:00 PM (Zoom)
- Thursday, March 17 @ 6:00 PM (Zoom)
- Saturday, March 26, 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon (in-person, Veterans Memorial Building)
- Monday, March 28 @ 12:00 noon (Zoom), co-hosted with the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce
All sites suggested will be evaluated against the California Department of Housing and Community Development site criteria. Feedback will be used to inform a list of potential housing opportunity sites in the next phase of the Housing Element update effort.
Community members can find project information, follow the process and register for workshops at www.danvilletowntalks.org/housingelement or contact Public Information Officer Nicola Shihab at (925) 314-3336 or [email protected].
