On Friday, November 26, 2021, several downtown streets will be closed for the annual Lighting of the Old Oak Tree. This traditional event is back in person this year and will take place rain or shine. The evening program starts at 5:15 p.m. on Diablo Road and is due to conclude by 8:00 p.m. Street closures will run from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Motorists are asked to use caution and expect delays.
The Lighting of the Old Oak Tree is a perfect way to spend the day after Thanksgiving. Leading up to the lighting, the program will include performances by the Danville Girls Chorus, SRVHS and MVHS choir groups, welcoming comments from local officials, followed by the introduction of Father Christmas and the Snow Angel who will lead the crowd in a countdown to the lighting of the tree.
Throughout the event, local merchants will be open to help shoppers with their gift lists. All are welcome to join this special tradition and to stay downtown to enjoy the evening and participate in this year’s shop local effort – “Keep Danville Merry & Bright – Support Local Businesses.”
